As an artist, you need a professional website to market your services and sell your originals and prints. I’m a brand and website designer who often works with artists, live wedding painters, and other creatives. Here are a few beautiful artist website examples to inspire you, along with a few tips from me on how to organize your website.
Overall, when it comes to artist websites, less is more. You need a generous amount of white space, but at the same time, it’s important to showcase your art style and make it easy for people to navigate your services, whether it’s live paintings, custom commissions, original artwork, or something else.
Yes, it’s very important to have a website as an artist. Even if you’re active on social media, your website is the ‘central’ place that your potential clients visit to learn more about your services, artistic style, and how to work with you. It boosts your credibility and makes it easy to inquire or make a purchase.
Here’s why you should have a website as an artist:
Plus, naturally, your website becomes your always-available portfolio that you can share with anyone, anywhere. It’s a space you control, and can even be a creative outlet of sorts.
I’m a Showit website designer & brand designer who often works with artists, live wedding painters, photographers, and other creatives.
Here are six of my favorite artist websites I’ve designed. These aren’t just simple portfolio websites. They’re marketing artist services, and some of them also have online stores to sell art. All of them are optimized for SEO (search engine optimization) to show up on Google searches.
Rita, the artistic mind behind Heirloom Photo Company, is a photographer for branding, headshots, and corporate events in Kansas City, Missouri. She helps her clients create clear & consistent visual messaging, and she needed her website to cultivate a sophisticated, nostalgic, and vivacious aesthetic.
There are a few things about Rita’s site that are just plain awesome. Like the custom illustrations I created for her (my favorite is the phone — see below!), the typewriter effect on the home page, the “trusted by” logos, and the infographics throughout the site. Here’s the live website!
This brand and website were all about communicating Rita’s point of view as an artist, but also sharing a bit about her personality. There’s a certain vintage (but also modern and cool and FUN!) flair to the site that is very Rita. This website is also killing it when it comes to SEO, driving organic traffic to Rita’s website. I’m obsessed!!
Steph is a live wedding painter in Detroit, Michigan. In addition to live wedding painter services, she also offers custom commissions and original artwork. Her goal at Fuerst Paints is to create high-quality, unique keepsakes for her clients to cherish for a lifetime.
If there’s one word to describe this fine artist website example, it’s artisanal. The design of this site was all about creating a collage feel. I created custom illustrations (you can see them on the live site!), and I adore the butterfly logo. The buttons are also really fun and different. Overall, this site reflects Steph’s art style & aesthetic.
Korianne is a live wedding painter based in Minnesota. She creates art with a lifelong dedication to realism, romanticism, and portrait accuracy, and her goal is to capture a moment as it truly was, not just the physical elements, but the emotions.
The vibe of this website is cozy and luxurious, with deep, vibrant colors. You can also easily navigate to Korinne’s pages for either live wedding paintings or studio commission portraits, and learn more about each service on its dedicated services page. I also added custom code to her contact form to make it look prettier!
If you like this style, you’ll like these earthy color palettes.
Devin Tormey Art is a live wedding painter for couples in Boston, New England, and all over the United States! She also offers commissioned paintings to capture your most cherished moments, memories, and dreams.
She was looking for an earthy yet sophisticated aesthetic as she started to attract more high-end clients. I brought her vision to life with custom branding and illustrations, and one of my favorite parts about Devin’s website is the About page:
I just LOVE the Polaroids!
SEO was also an important part of this project, and Devin currently ranks #2 for “live wedding painter Massachusetts.” This has brought her leads directly from Google!
A live wedding and event painter in Cleveland, Ohio, Rachel Vaught captures the essence of her clients’ weddings, pets, or loved ones. I designed her artist branding and website to be bold, moody, textured, and eclectic, emphasizing the heirloom quality of her work.
In addition to live wedding painting and custom portraits, Rachel also has an Art Shop where she sells prints and originals. I integrated her website with a third-party provider, Shopify, so that her clients could purchase her artwork directly on her website:
Rachel’s business is growing, so I’ll be making more updates to her shop soon!
Another freelance artist website example on this list, Sloan is a live wedding painter in Denver, Colorado. She captures weddings in Colorado and across the United States, and she wanted her website to communicate her aesthetic: refined, peaceful, and handmade.
I designed an elegant, light, and airy website that shows off her portfolio, service details, and links to the live wedding painting agency that she works for.
Sloan was in the middle of a move from Kentucky to Colorado during this project, so a BIG focus was on SEO and making sure that she ranks for Colorado and Denver-related keywords. This may not be the sexiest aspect of an artist’s website, but it’s VERY important for growing your business!
Looking for more examples of websites? You can find them on my Portfolio page!
Visual impact on a website is huge for visitors. 40% of people look at images, 21% at videos, and the rest care about color grade and other visual elements. As an artist, this works in your favor since your art is naturally visual. Here’s how to create a website that showcases your work, style, and personality:
Before you start building, decide what you want your website to do. Are you mainly marketing your services, like commissions or workshops? Do you want people to find you on Google? Do you need an online shop to sell prints and originals? Writing down these goals will help you make decisions throughout the design process.
You need a logo, color palette, icons, and patterns – a cohesive look that ties everything together. Your artist branding should complement your art style and express it through a different medium.
I recommend having a professional designer create your branding, since then they’ll be able to make sure your branding & website work together seamlessly! However, there are also DIY branding kits you can get online.
A website builder is a platform that lets you create a website without coding. This is how most service providers, small business owners, and creatives build websites. Choosing the right website builder for you is VERY important because it affects the overall style and technical capabilities of your website.
I recommend Showit as the best website builder for artists because it gives you the most creative freedom and has impressive tech settings, too. Here’s my guide on Showit and SEO. After trying multiple platforms, Showit is now the only one I design on because it’s simply the best!
Other options include Squarespace, WordPress, and Wix. Each has different strengths, but Showit is my go-to for creatives and small businesses.
Most platforms offer website templates that you can DIY. However, they can be tricky to customize if you’re doing it yourself. You often end up fighting with the template to get it to look the way you want.
The best option is to work with a designer who can create a completely custom website that fits your specific needs. OR, a middle-ground option is to get a designer to customize your template for you (which usually costs less than a custom build). But I don’t recommend DIY-ing.
I offer both custom website design and template customization on Showit. Learn more about my services!
Once your website is ready, test that everything works properly (all links are correct, your images load properly, contact forms trigger emails, etc.). Also, look at your website using your phone to make sure it looks good on mobile. Then, it’s time to hit publish!
This varies from person to person, but most artists will benefit from the following pages:
Your website footer should also include social media icons so that visitors can connect with you on Instagram or other social media sites you use.
61.5% of web designers believe that bad navigation is the main reason visitors abandon a website, so keep yours clear and logical. Don’t overwhelm people with too many options in your navigation bar.
Let your work breathe on the page instead of cramming everything together. This is one of the reasons Showit is such a great website builder – you can design things upside down if you want to! The creative freedom lets you present your art in unique ways.

It depends on your style, but it needs to communicate who you are as an artist and what makes your work unique. Especially for something as creative as being an artist, your website needs to be creative too, and it needs to be CLEAR. Visitors should immediately understand what you do and how to work with you.
Showit and Squarespace are both user-friendly options with an easy-to-use interface, but I wouldn’t recommend DIY-ing your website. Website design is a skill that takes many years to refine. There are templates you can use yourself, but they will sometimes still end up looking clunky and awkward when you do it on your own. I recommend investing in custom website design or, at the very least, template customization.
Your art deserves a beautiful and unique website that you feel proud of! If you’re ready to create a creative website that truly represents your artistic vision, I’d love to help.
